storyfest is founded and run by tay govender - a young filmmaker, photographer and business owner who wanted to create a space for people to come together and share their passion for storytelling. as someone who spends a lot of time looking at the world through a lens, tay has experienced the power of storyteling - how you can capture moments, evoke emotions, and turn instances into timeless narratives that resonate beyond the frame. she wants story fest to give people a chance to share and connect through the medium of film.

  • you get a photograph as a stimulus and have to make a film in two weeks (yip a time crunch - fun)
  • after the first week you have the chance to submit a draft of your film and get feedback to help you improve it and give you a taste of the industry

  • everyone’s an amateur, so no pressure

  • films are screened at a public event where awards will be presented as well (prizes to be won)

  • films are judged by industry professional

  • meet fellow filmmakers and network with potenial collegues or future besties at workshop events
